Due to the ongoing perennial rains in the East and Central African region, many areas have been hit hard with floods. In Kenya, specifically Nairobi, Slum dwellers are finding it hard to go on with their livelihood as the floods have caused havoc and destruction to their homes and belongings.

Safisha Africa visited one of this slum areas, Mathare slum, on the aftermath of the floods. The area had been flooded heavily. A nearby river had broken its banks and water flooded nearby iron sheet houses.

The residents opted to sleep on the rooftop as there was no escape from the water. The government was slow with relief and rescue
